"The Spirit who is from God..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 2:12

THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

One of the most precious gifts that God has given to us is the Holy Spirit! It is a gift to be greatly treasured and it must never be taken for granted.

“Now we have received, not the spirit of the world,
but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know
the things that have been freely given to us by God.”
1 Corinthians 2:12

1. “Now we have received”

a) “Not the spirit of the world”
i) Worldly wisdom may be described as “the spirit of the world”.
ii) This is then contrasted with “the Spirit of God”.
iii) This makes for easier comprehension of this line of thought.
b) “But the Spirit who is from God”
i) We receive the Holy Spirit when we come to faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
ii) He is given to us as our Seal and Guarantee that we truly are the Lord’s children (Ephesians 1:13-14).
iii) He gives to us regeneration (Titus 3:5).
iv) He is poured into our life abundantly through the Lord Jesus Christ (Titus 3:6).

2. “That we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God”

a) There are many things freely given to us by God.
b) Through the Spirit of God, the following things may be experienced:
i) The love of God (Romans 5:8)
ii) Wisdom (Ephesians 1:17-18)
iii) Life (Romans 8:11)
iv) Leading in life (Romans 8:14)
v) Prayer (Romans 8:15)
vi) Help in weakness (Romans 8:26)
vii) Power (1 Corinthians 2:4)
viii) Fruit (Galatians 5:22-23)
ix) Illumination (revelation) (Ephesians 3:5)
x) Inner-man strength (Ephesians 3:16)
