"No schism in the body..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 12:25

THE BODY OF CHRIST MUST NOT BE FRAGMENTED

The Lord Jesus taught His disciples how they must always love one another. The idea of oneness was understood and reinforced in the teachings of the Apostles.

“That there should be no schism in the body,
but that the members should have the same care for one another.
And if one member suffers, all the members suffer with it;
or if one member is honoured, all the members rejoice with it.
Now you are the body of Christ, and members individually.”
1 Corinthians 12:25-27

1. “There should be no schism in the body”

a) This was stated with reference to the body of Christ, the church.
b) This was an oft-repeated truth that Paul expounded.

2. “The members should have the same care for one another”

a) Love should prevail.
b) Love for the Lord should be expressed in love for the Church.
c) In turn, this love must result in caring for one another.

3. In suffering or in honour

a) All members should feel with each other.
b) In times of adversity and suffering, we hurt with those who are hurt.
c) In times of honour, there should be a great sense of honour felt with those who are honoured.

4. “The body of Christ”

a) This is such a glorious concept.
i) The Lord Jesus Christ is in heaven presently.
ii) But His Presence should be felt in the Church.
iii) All members ought to bear this understanding in mind.
iv) The church is the physical representation of the Lord Jesus Christ on earth.
b) “Members individually”
i) In strength or in weakness.
ii) In clearly-developed gifts.
iii) Each individual member contributes to the growth and strength of the Church.

How we must be challenged to remember this great truth!
