"Do all to the glory of God."

Text: 1 Corinthians 10:31

MATURE AND WISE PRINCIPLES

Paul had developed mature and wise principles to live by. Some of these are well reflected here.

“Therefore, whether you eat or drink,
or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Give no offence, either to the Jews or to the Greeks
or to the church of God, just as I also please
all men in all things, not seeking my own profit,
but the profit of many, that they may be saved.”
1 Corinthians 10:31-33

1. The commandments of God

a) These must be kept.
b) They govern our faith and our life.

2. In situations that are not clearly stated

a) The following must be considered.
b) Certain principles must be established and then practised.

3. Principles Paul lived by:

a) “Doing all to the glory of God”
i) This is a wonderful principle to live by!
ii) Paul actively practised this principle.
b) “Give no offence”
i) Not to the Jews.
ii) Nor to the Greeks (a general reference to “Gentiles”).
iii) Nor to the church of God.
c) “The profit of many”
i) Nothing is done out of personal interest.
ii) The focus is to benefit others.
iii) If others could benefit from his actions, he would choose that option.
d) The hope of leading people to salvation
i) This was Paul’s consistent and strong commitment.
ii) His desire was for people to come to salvation in Christ Jesus.
iii) He would do anything if that could lead people to faith in the Lord.

He would also give up any personal liberty if he could help someone find faith in the Lord.
