"He who glories..."

Text: 1 Corinthians 1:31

LEARNING TO GLORY IN THE LORD

It would be wonderful to learn how we may glory in the Lord. The human tendency however, seems to gyrate towards the things of the world.

“That, as it is written,
‘He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.'”
1 Corinthians 1:31

1. “As it is written”

The full text is cited so that we may appreciate what Paul was writing about.

“Thus says the LORD:
‘Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom,
Let not the mighty man glory in his might,
Nor let the rich man glory in his riches;
But let him who glories glory in this,
That he understands and knows Me,
That I am the LORD, exercising lovingkindness,
judgment, and righteousness in the earth.
For in these I delight,’ says the LORD.”
Jeremiah 9:23-24

2. The things that people tend to glory in

a) Human wisdom
b) Might (power)
c) Wealth

3. He who glories

a) To glory is literally “to boast in”.
b) To exult in.
c) To take greatest pleasure in.

4. Let him glory in the LORD

a) That we know and understand Him.
i) His lovingkindness
ii) His judgment
iii) His righteousness
b) That we belong to Him.
c) That we are called to be His people.
d) That we are His because of the Lord Jesus Christ, the captain of our salvation.
e) Let us learn to take great joy and pride that we are of the LORD.
