INTRODUCTION

1. A Feast of Dedication in Jerusalem (John 10:22)

2. This Feast of Dedication is called “Hanukkah” today 

a) Hanukkah means “Dedication”
b) Hanukkah in 2021 (28 November- 6 December)
c) An annual feast

3. Brief history behind the Feast of Dedication

a) Jerusalem under the tyrannical rule of the king of Syria, Antiochus Epiphanes
b) It was a reign of Terror (3 years)
i) He killed 80, 000 Jews
ii) He sold into slavery just as many
c) The Temple of Jerusalem
i) It became a temple of Zeus
ii) Pigs were offered on the altar
iii) The Temple became a brothel
d) The Maccabees (Led by a Priest Judas Maccabeus) 
i) He led a successful revolt against the Syrians
ii) The Temple had to be cleansed and then rededicated
iii) But there was oil for only one day in the Temple Menorah 
iv) Yet it burned for 8 days while special holy oil was being prepared
Hanukkah is celebrated by Jews from 165 BC to the present day!

CONFRONTATION OF THE LORD JESUS IN SOLOMON’S PORCH

1. It was “winter” (John 10:22)

a) It is not a reference to the season
b) It described a time of stormy/rainy season

2. Confrontation 

Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, “How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” John 10:24

a) The Jews surrounded Him
i) There would be no escape
ii) An attempt at intimidation
b) Defiant and rude
“How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” John 10:24b
i) As if the fault lay on the Lord Jesus
ii) The question was whether the Lord Jesus was “The Christ”
iii) They demanded a plain answer (clearly) 

THE ANSWER OF THE LORD JESUS CHRIST

25 Jesus answered them, “I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.

26 But you do not believe, because you are not of My sheep, as I said to you.

27 My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me.

28 And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of My hand.

29 My Father, who has given them to Me, is greater than all; and no one is able to snatch them out of My Father’s hand.

30 I and My Father are one.” John 10:25-30

1. The Identity of the Lord Jesus Christ

a) The Problem of Unbelief
“I told you, and you do not believe” John 10:25a
i) The Lord had explained many times
ii) The problem was that the Jews do not believe
b) The works of the Lord Jesus
“The works that I do in My Father’s name, they bear witness of Me.” John 10:25b
i) His works were miracles
ii) They bore witness of the Identity of the Lord Jesus

2. NOT the sheep of the Lord Jesus

a) Reiteration
i)  Sheep that belong to the Lord as Shepherd
ii) Sheep that do not belong to the Lord Jesus  (The Jews)
b) The Jews identified plainly
i) They were not the sheep of the Lord Jesus
ii) They do not have faith in Him
c) True sheep
i) They hear the Lord’s voice
ii) They follow Him
iii) The Lord knows them (John 10:27)

3. The Sheep of the Lord Jesus

a) The Lord gives them eternal life
b) The sheep will not perish
c) No one can snatch the sheep from His handJohn 10:28

GOD THE FATHER

1. He was the One who gave the sheep to the Lord Jesus

2. He is greater than any and every one else (John 10:29a)

3. No one can snatch them out of His hand (John 10:29b)

CONCLUSION

1. The Father and Son Relationship I

a) Profound relationship
b) They work “hand in glove”

 2. The Father and Son Relationship II

a) Oneness
“I and My Father are one” John 10:30
b) A Profound statement of Truth
i) One in power
ii) One in Essence (Being) 

3. These truths are hard to grasp

a) One needs to be born again
b) One needs knowledge
c) One needs faith
