3. Features of the Parable

a) The Seed: The Word of God (Luke 8:11)
b) The ground: The hearts of the hearers (Luke 8:15)

THE GROUND THAT DID NOT BEAR FRUIT AT ALL

1. The wayside (Luke 8:12)

2. The work of the devil

a) He snatches the word of God away
b) He takes the word out of the heart of the hearers (Luke 8:12)
i) Lest they should believe
ii) Lest they should be saved

THE GROUND THAT HAD NO DEPTH (ROCKY GROUND)

1. The hearers

a) They receive the word well (Luke 8:13)
b) They received it with joy

2. No roots 

a) They believe
b) But only for a while (Luke 8:13)

3. Time of temptation

a) Testing (general idea)
b) Tribulation/ persecution Matthew 13:21
c) StumblingMatthew 13:21
d) They fall awayLuke 8:13

THE GROUND THAT HAD THORNS

1. They heard the word (Luke 8:14)

2. They go out and are choked

a) With cares
b) With riches
c) With pleasures of life

3. The word of God is choked (Matthew 13:22)

4. The hearer becomes unfruitful (Matthew 13:22)

5. They bring no fruit to maturity (Luke 8:14)

a) Some promise of fruit
b) But the fruit did not come to maturity
c) There was no fruit

THE GROUND THAT YIELDED FRUIT

1. Good ground (Luke 8:15)

a) Hearing of the word
b) There is understanding (Matthew 13:23)
c) With a noble heart (Luke 8:15)
d) With a good heart (Luke 8:15)
e) The word of God is kept well (Luke 8:15)
f) It bears fruit with patience (Luke 8:15)

2. Quantity of yield

a) Thirtyfold
b) Sixtyfold
c) Hundredfold (Matthew 13:23)

OUR CHALLENGE

1. To check for fruit

a) Maturity
b) Fruit

2. To check the heart

a) For understanding
b) For response

3. To address the problems as they appear

a) The word of God must not be snatched away
b) There must be depth of ground
c) Beware the temptations of life

4. Desire to bear good fruit
