The Sacredness of the Priesthood

THE SACREDNESS OF THE PRIESTHOOD

1. That they may minister to Me as priest   (Exodus 28:1, 4, 41; 29:1)

a) Multiple mentions
b) Meaning of serving as priests to the Lord emphasised
i) Not just duties
ii) Not just activities
c) The Lord must be borne in mind
i) His Person
ii) His Power

2. The High Priest That he may not die   (Exodus 28:31)

a) Bells of gold
b) Upon the hem of the garments
c) The sound of it will be heard when he goes into the holy place
d) And when he comes out
e) That he may not die

3. The Priests That they do not incur iniquity and die   (Exodus 28:43)

a) To be anointed
b) To be consecrated
c) To be sanctified   (Exodus 28:41)
d) They must wear their holy garments   (Exodus 28:40-43)

CONSECRATION WEEK

1. Appropriate sacrifices must be made

a) One young bull and two rams   (Exodus 29:1)
b) Unleavened bread/ cakes mixed with oil   (Exodus 29:2)
c) Unleavened wafers anointed with oil   (Exodus 29:2)

2. Aaron and his sons

a) Washed with water at the door of the Tabernacle   (Exodus 29:4)
b) Aaron is the first to be anointed
c) He must put on his high priestly garments   (Exodus 29:5-6)
d) The sons are to wear their priestly garments   (Exodus 29:5-6)

3. Seven days of consecration

a) Sacrifices must be made daily (atonement)   (Exodus 29:35)
b) Altar must be consecrated with atoning sacrifice   (Exodus 29:36-37)
