UNDERSTANDING THE MINISTRY OF THE LEVITES

2. The Levites   (Deuteronomy 18:1a)

THEIR PLACE IN ISRAEL

1. No part

2. No inheritance in Israel   (Deuteronomy 18:1b, 2a)

THEIR PORTION AND THEIR INHERITANCE

1. They may eat the offerings of the Lord   (Deuteronomy 18:1c)

2. This will be their portion   (Deuteronomy 18:1c)

3. The LORD Himself is their inheritance   (Deuteronomy 18:2)

THE PRIEST’S DUE FROM THE PEOPLE

1. From those who offer a sacrifice   (Deuteronomy 18:3a)

a) Bull
b) Sheep

2. The people are to give to the priest

a) Shoulder, cheek and stomach  (Deuteronomy 18:3b)
b) Firstfruits   (Deuteronomy 18:4)
i) Grain
ii) New wine
iii) Oil
iv) Fleece of sheep

APPOINTMENT FROM THE LORD

1. The LORD has chosen him out of all your tribes   (Deuteronomy 18:5a)

2. To stand to minister in the name of the LORD

3. The priest and his sons forever   (Deuteronomy 18:5b)

THE LEVITE’S CHOICE

1. He may choose where he may minister   (Deuteronomy 18:6)

2. It would have to be within what the Lord has chosen   (Deuteronomy 18:6)

3. He is to serve in the name of the LORD   (Deuteronomy 18:7)

4. They will have equal portions to eat   (Deuteronomy 18:8a)

5. They are allowed to keep what they sell (inheritance)   (Deuteronomy 18:8b)
