2. The Statutes and Judgments

a) These arose from the practice of the Law
b) Sometimes situations and circumstances were difficult
c) These had to be brought to Moses   (Exodus 18:22)
d) Judgments and Statutes arose from these cases

3. The Command to keep the Statutes and Judgments

a) Implications: –
i) The people would have to be taught
ii) They must make an effort to learn more than just the basics
iii) They are also expected to keep the Law, the Statutes and the Judgments
b) The Ministry of Teaching
The priests and Levites, the Elders etc
c) Parents would have to teach their children   (Deuteronomy 6:20-25)

4. The Conquest of the Land of Canaan

a) Utter destruction of the places of worship of the Canaanites
b) All places of false worship
i) High mountains
ii) Hills
iii) Every green tree   (Deuteronomy 12:2)
c) All altars
i) Break down sacred pillars
ii) Burn wooden images
iii) Cut down the carved images
d) Names of the idols and places
To be destroyed
e) No worship of any idol

“I am the LORD your God…
You shall have no other gods before Me”   Deuteronomy 5:6-7
b) Second Commandment
“You shall not make any graven image”   Deuteronomy 5:8
