A GREAT ANCIENT PRACTICE

“The Release of Debts”   Deuteronomy 15:1
Or
“The LORD’s release”   Deuteronomy 15:2

1. At the end of every seventh year

2. You should grant a release of debts   (Deuteronomy 15:1)

THE FORM OF THE RELEASE FOR ALL ISRAELITES

Deuteronomy 15:2

1. The creditor

He must release it to his borrower
a) His neighbour
b) His brother

2. He must not require it

3. He must give up any claim

THE FOREIGNER WHO BORROWED

Deuteronomy 15:3

1. The Lord’s Release does not apply to the foreigner

2. The creditor may lay claim on the money loaned out

NO ONE POOR IN THE LAND

Deuteronomy 15:4

1. The LORD can bless greatly

2. It is possible to have no one poor in the land of inheritance

HOW WOULD THIS COME ABOUT?

Deuteronomy 15:5-6

1. If the LORD is carefully obeyed

2. If His commandments are observed with due care

THE PROMISE OF THE LORD

Deuteronomy 15:6

1. He will bless as He has promised

2. The nation will lend to others

3. It would not need to borrow

4. It may reign over others

5. They need not be ruled by others
